March (April) Break Knitting Club details:

Please have yarn and knitting needles ready. Parents are welcome to join their child/children!

In an effort to encourage children and teens to pick up knitting as a hobby, especially during this time of fewer activities available and more time at home, Sew Creative has launched Knit Creative.

Knit Creative is an online knitting club that encourages children and teens (ages 8-16) to try a new hobby at home that is fun, relaxing, affordable and mostly away from screens*. Parents are welcome to join their child/children to learn together!

Joining the club is FREE.

*I am an ardent supporter of keeping screen time low for children. I am also aware of the impact that isolation has on children and their need to interact with others. Hence the 30 minute online club meeting, which hopefully generates inspiration for hours of offline knitting!

This is how the club works:

Knit Creative is using two platforms:

1. ZOOM – weekly meetings of 30 minutes for connecting socially with the other knitters. I will not be teaching during these club meetings, as teaching is available through the video links that I post on Flipgrid (see below). There will be opportunity to help each other with some knitting troubleshooting or technical issues with the platforms. The main focus of the Zoom meeting is to give encouragement, to socialize and have fun. In order to keep Knit Creative’s Zoom meetings as safe as possible, participants will enter the meeting from the waiting room and will be admitted by the host.

2. Flipgrid – for posting links to free online tutorials that I have vetted and recommend, exchanging ideas for knitting projects, sharing of helpful resources and giving feedback. Club members are encouraged to answer weekly questions and post their ideas, useful links, photos of projects etc., for other club members to see. In order to keep Knit Creative’s Flipgrid page as safe as possible, club members’ contributions will be audited by me before they become visible to others in the group.

If your child needs knitting instruction that goes beyond the support that Knit Creative can offer, there is the option of booking private, in-person knitting classes at Sew Creative.

These classes are fee-based and a separate application can be made here. Please choose Private class in the event selection and in the date selection enter your options for class dates/times. I will then contact you to arrange a class time.
